Monroe County Friends of Animals (MCFA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer organization that has a mission to provide for and continuously improve the health, happiness and fortunes of the homeless and abandoned cats and dogs in Monroe County. We are seeking an Executive Director for a once-in-a-career opportunity to help lead a new business model for our non-profit animal rescue/shelter, Eastbourne Animal Center (EAC). With the recent completion of the new EAC, we have transitioned from supporting the county owned animal shelter to the full responsibility for all Monroe County animal rescue operations including the EAC building.
To join our non-profit team, the new Executive Director must be able to guide our organization forward by overseeing all operational, financial and technical aspects of the organization. This role will be responsible for driving the organization’s success and making a positive impact in the community we serve. The Executive Director be working with paid professionals as well as unpaid volunteers to ensure a smooth operation of the animal center, that our annual fundraising goals are met, and we continue building our donor and volunteer base for future success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the leader and “face” of the Eastbourne Animal Center - internally and externally to the community. Attend fundraising and community events as appropriate.
- Provide leadership to and manage a wide range of staff and volunteers – animal care, business office, fundraising, etc.
- Retain a diverse, highly qualified staff and volunteers by providing training, growth and personal development for workers to improve the service and care at the shelter and with the public.
- Lead fundraising efforts, including but not limited to: Corporate giving, grants, and partnerships
- Maintain relationships with the board of directors, donors, corporate sponsors, and community members
- Prepare accurate and timely analyses to capture and communicate fundraising results, variances and performance trends.
- Ensure that the animal center services and funding relationships are robust enough to meet or exceed goals and objectives.
- Planning, organization, and directing the organizations operations and volunteer programs: including animal fosters, spay and neuter assistance program, rescues, pets for patriots, membership, etc.
- Communicate effectively with board members, staff, volunteers, clients, vendors, donors, etc.
- Responsible for fully utilizing all forms of social media, including our website, to engage supporters, increase brand awareness and promote fundraising initiatives.
- Oversee and contribute to the monthly Newsletter and similar communications.
- Create and/or update new or existing policies and procedures.
- Ensure timely bookkeeping and payment processing.
- Provide analysis, reports and recommendations to the Board of Directors.
- Coordinate annual budget reviews, monthly and quarterly reviews, and periodic forecast updates with the Finance Chair on the Board of Directors.
- Oversee Financial and regulatory requirements, collaborate with the Board of Directors, develop strategic plans, and represent the organization to the public.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, high school diploma required
- CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) desired
- Strong leadership skills, 2+ years experience managing people and processes preferred.
- Four (4) or more years experience with a non-profit organization; work with or in animal shelter preferred.
- Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and/or Google Workspaces.
- Ability to learn new platforms/programs without difficulty (i.e. ShelterLuv, Kindful, Canva).
- Ability to provide leadership in the organization and implementation of operational plans, tactics, budgets, and goals.
- Must have technical experience and comprehensive knowledge of non-profit operations and regulations for the state of Tennessee.
- Fundraising experience including events, mail solicitations and special presentations preferred
- Proven financial management, including managing budgets.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to work in a team-based, highly collaborative environment.
- Capacity to work well under pressure and tight deadlines as well as the ability to manage and prioritize competing projects/tasks
- Strong written and verbal communications skills; ability to interact at all levels.
- Ability to work Holidays, weekends and evenings as needed.
